Strategic Communications maintains the main channels of social media for the college. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. These social media platforms are public facing channels that promote the college through engaging content that is appropriate for the audience of the platform.
All types of Penn State Berks social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) are communication tools of the college. While we are committed to upholding freedom of speech, we must also ensure that our social media accounts affirm our commitment to the Penn State values of respect, responsibility, and community. We are also committed to helping to curate an appropriate point of view through social media for the college as well as help monitor conversations and content.
If you see postings that cause concern, please report them to Strategic Communications as soon as you become aware. We will then consult on the proper response and Strategic Communications will track these incidents.
Do you want to create a new social media account from within the college?
Some departments, programs, etc. may make the decision to create a new social media account. Social media channels require a lot of maintenance, time, and should be monitored closely (daily or every other day). If you do not have the resources to devote to closely monitoring your social media pages or generating content on a consistent basis, please reconsider creating the account. If you have any questions or concerns about alternative ways to get your information out, please contact Strategic Communications to discuss. If you plan to go ahead with a new social media account, contact the Strategic Communications office for critical guidance. This will allow us to make sure you are appropriately creating an account that adds to the Penn State Berks image in the social media world as well as to help guide and consult on what can be done. To request a meeting to talk about social media, please contact the department at [email protected].
Already created a social media account from within the college?
Strategic Communications would still like to know about the accounts you have in connection with the college. This allows for us to help during concerning situations as well as monitor for duplicate accounts, inactivity, or should an admin of the account leave the college. Please send a list of all social media accounts that your degree program, office, or group has created to [email protected]. This list should include the name (handle), URL address of the pages, and the names of the administrators for each account.
